Estelle Gassmann

Turning a distinctive Figma design into a production-ready WordPress website

About the Client

Estelle Gassmann is a Zürich-based designer and artist creating tableware, porcelain pieces, textiles and unique objects. Her website serves both as a presentation of her work and as an online store where customers can purchase individual pieces and collections.

For the new website, Zürich-based design agency Resort Studio created the visual concept and Figma designs. Resort specializes in visual communication, branding and digital design, with a strong focus on precise and distinctive visual systems.

IMADO joined the project as the WordPress development partner, responsible for translating the supplied designs into a working website.

The challenge

The project required more than reproducing static Figma layouts.

The design needed to retain its visual character across different screen sizes while becoming a practical WordPress website that could support Estelle Gassmann’s growing collection of products, objects, exhibitions and editorial content.

At the same time, the implementation had to accommodate e-commerce functionality without allowing standard shop patterns to dominate the carefully considered design.

WooCommerce without the standard WooCommerce look

The website also functions as an online shop, with individual products, pricing, categories, product information, cart functionality and delivery information.

Instead of allowing the underlying e-commerce platform to dictate the frontend experience, the store functionality was integrated into the design created by Resort Studio.

This is particularly important in design-led projects: WooCommerce should provide the commerce infrastructure without making every WooCommerce website look like a conventional online store.

From Figma to WordPress

Working directly from Resort Studio’s designs, we developed the website in WordPress and translated the visual system into reusable frontend components.

Our work focused on:

  • accurately implementing the supplied Figma designs;
  • translating desktop layouts into responsive behavior;
  • creating reusable WordPress components for different content types;
  • integrating product and shopping functionality into the custom interface;
  • maintaining consistent typography, spacing and interaction patterns;
  • making content manageable through the WordPress backend;
  • handling the technical details required to turn a design prototype into a production website.

The result is a site where editorial content, Estelle Gassmann’s artistic work and commerce coexist within the same visual system.

The collaboration with Imado was very efficient.

Agency collaboration

The project is also a good example of how we work with design studios and creative agencies.

Resort Studio remained responsible for the creative direction and visual design, while IMADO handled the technical implementation in WordPress.

This division allows design agencies to retain ownership of the creative relationship while bringing in an experienced WordPress development team for implementation.

The result

The finished website translates Resort Studio’s visual direction into a responsive WordPress and e-commerce experience while giving Estelle Gassmann a practical platform for presenting and selling her work.

The website currently brings together products, unique objects, exhibitions, commissions, stockists, news and information about the artist within one consistent digital experience.
